#TechTossUp
Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 6:09AM Last week we had some great discussion on our Cool Teacher #TechTossUp question, "Who is more creative, Apple or Google?" Here is what the Cool Teacher cloud had to say.
“Google!” - Kyle Ford
“…definitely Apple. Just look at how many more iPhones than Androids have been sold. Also, without a doubt, it is way more fun to be immersed in an Apple environment than a google environment. Apple's user interface is just so much more streamlined.” -Patrick Schutz
“eh, iPhones have been on the market 10 times longer the androids and iPhones have a lot of problems, I think Id give it to Google.”--Jj Hunt
“NOT EVEN CLOSE. Apple! Steve Jobs was CEO of the DECADE in Fortune. He with Apple changed 4 industries. Music, Phones, Computers and Movies with Pixar. I mean, c’mon. I go to GOOGLE to find information. I go to Apple to LIVE.” -Paul Rutter
“Google has created products that everyone has access to with little or no charge to the end user for most of its services, they capitalize on the privacy that you surrender. apple creates interesting products, but Google definitely makes them better. without the map app for the iphone, i would not have bought one. voice search on my phone is pretty creative.”-Paul Dourte
“Google capitalizes on what it does best, but hardly has kept pace technologically with the changing market. Apple creates new products, engineers solutions, and its marketing scheme is beyond words. Both deserve a pat on the back.”-Ben Van Hoogen
“Apple is more creative... Google is better at it.”-Paul Burton
Listen to the Cool Teacher Podcast #36 to find out what Barbara and I thought. Also, send us some suggestions on other #TechTossUp ideas for future shows.
More than who wins the creativity contest, I believe the thing we glean from the larger discussion is what constitutes a culture of her reinvention and ingenuity. I asked myself the question, "what would it take for me to teach and execute a classroom that exhibits the same kind inventiveness with a reckless abandon?" I find myself inspired by both companies and their willingness to do the things they want to do whether they are (at the time) impossible or not. It's this desire to do the impossible that makes them world changers. I like to think that I can do the same.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
