Mirasol, Another iPad?

It is likely that the Kindle will be to the e-book class what the PalmPilot was to mobile devices, just not good enough. The relatively lo-res black-and-white screen of the Kindle was eclipsed last week by the iPad and this week by the announcement of a new tablet computer from QUALCOMM. The 5.7 inch screen on the tool called Mirasol his small, clear, and powerful but operates without the use of LEDs. The optical cavity technology saves power and will likely be the choice of many textbook manufacturers because the devices can to operate for much longer periods of time. The tool will also have full working Internet and apps.

Star Trek Online

For those who are interested in MMORPGs, Star Trek online went live this week. The new virtual world features gameplay on a scale we've not seen before. Like it's magic wielding sword toting cousin World of Warcraft, the massive multiplayer game offers opportunities to play, chat, and quest in a 3-D to the digital space. I am sure that there are is an educational significance, and I promise you this, I will not rest until I find it.

Promethean Document Camera 

Smart classroom interfaces are essential part of the new educational landscape. But what about books? Integrating these tools has left our old, leather bound friend out in the cold. Promethean, a leading interactive presentation device manufacture, recently announced an integrated document camera. Those of you familiar with the ELMO already understand its features.The document camera allows you to take books and other physical (not virtual) objects and allows you to project and interact with them in the same way you can digital objects. This new third-party tool, the ActiView 322, evens the playing field with its rival Smart who introduced this tool sometime ago.
